Lisandro Martinez reveals what Manchester United players think about Arsenal Premier League title race

Lisandro Martinez believes closing the gap on table-toppers Arsenal is important for the club but insists they must take it one game at a time.

Manchester United are enjoying a great run of form and can make it 14 consecutive wins at Old Trafford if they defeat Leeds on Wednesday night. Not only that, but they can move level with Manchester City should they pick up all three points.

The two fierce rivals will face off in a spicy double-header this week and will meet again on Sunday. Should Erik ten Hag's side win both matches then they will actually overtake the Blues before they next play in Sunday's later kick-off.

Additionally, United could move within five of Arsenal at the summit of the table and reinstate their presence in the title race with a win. Something that's important to the team.

"Yeah for sure," Martinez told Sky Sport when asked if closing the gap on Arsenal came into the players' thinking. "It's very important for us but we have to go step by step.

"Still we have many games to play but tonight is the most important for us. We can't think about the future we can only go day by day."

It's bound to be a raucous Old Trafford for the first meeting between the old foes this season and Martinez loves the connection the team has with the fans. He continued: "It's very important for us, we have that connection with the people we feel that we don't play alone. It's amazing, the atmosphere, it's amazing.

"So we are really happy to get this connection and it's good for us, our confidence, as well. We have to keep going and we have to go in this direction."
