Lisandro Martinez returns to Manchester United training following World Cup win

Lisandro Martinez has returned to Manchester United training for the first time following his World Cup triumph with Argentina.

The 24-year-old was pictured back at Carrington on Wednesday, 10 days after he was an unused substitute for his country in their dramatic victory over France.

Martinez was seen taking part in a session with the rest of his United teammates and is in contention to return to action when his side face Wolves in the early kick-off this Saturday.

Raphael Varane became the first player involved in the World Cup final to return to club football when he started for United in their 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

His impressive performance has given Martinez extra reason to return to action against Wolves this weekend, particularly given that he sat out the World Cup final and only played half an hour during their semi-final win.

Speaking last week, Erik ten Hag joked that the popular defender was still “celebrating in Buenos Aires” after he and Varane were both given an extra week off following the end of the tournament.

Martinez took to social media on Tuesday night to show his support for United during their victory over Forest. The Argentine defender posted a picture of Anthony Martial celebrating the second goal of the game, tagging United's official account and adding a flexing-arm emoji and a red devil emoji.
