Lisandro Martinez: Manchester United confirm deal agreed for second signing of Erik ten Hag era

Manchester United have confirmed a deal has been reached with Ajax to sign defender Lisandro Martinez.

United will pay €57.37million (£48.84m), with a further €10m (£8.51m) in performance-related add-ons. Martinez will sign a five-year deal, with the option of a further year.

The Argentina international worked with Erik ten Hag in the Dutch capital, winning two Eredivisie titles along with the KNVB Cup after moving from Defensa y Justica.

Arsenal had also been tracking the 24-year-old but were put off by Ajax’s £45m valuation of the player and have now moved on to other targets.

Martinez will now undergo a medical and finalise a move to become United’s second summer signing during what has proven to be a frustrating summer thus far.

Only Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia had joined prior to Martinez’s arrival, although the club have reached an agreement with Barcelona over a potential £63m deal for Frenkie De Jong.

There are, however, concerns the Dutch international would rather stay at the Camp Nou.

United get their Premier League campaign underway at home to Brighton on August 7.
