Pack away the visions of a trip to Berlin in the fall. The Detroit Lions will not be playing in the German capital in the 2025 NFL regular season.
While there has been considerable discussion about the Lions playing in Germany, it won’t happen in 2025. The NFL assigned the Indianapolis Colts as the designated home team for the game in Berlin. Detroit and Indianapolis do not play in 2025, so the Lions will not be their opponent.
The Lions, like the Colts, are affiliated with Germany by the NFL’s Global Markets Program. Beyond that connection, Lions star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown is a German citizen, born to a German mother, and speaks fluent German. He’s done several interviews in that native tongue with German broadcasters.
There are still some international options for the Lions, who have not played outside the United States since a 2015 game in London during the Jim Caldwell coaching era. The NFL has yet to designate the home team for slated international games in Spain and Brazil.
