The game wasn’t exactly a blowout, but the Lions controlled the game pretty convincingly from about the middle of the second quarter to the final whistle. Detroit seized the lead at 10-6 with the first of Jamaal Williams’ three rushing touchdowns on the day.
Aaron Glenn’s defense did a fantastic job of bottling up All-Pro RB Saquon Barkley. The dynamic New York RB has just 22 yards on 15 carries through the first three quarters, finding no running room inside or outside. Detroit forced three New York turnovers and got a dominant performance from nose tackle Alim McNeill, who feasted on the injury-ravaged Giants line. McNeill had four tackles, a sack, three tackles for loss (all on Barkley) and seven QB pressures, per Next Gen Stats on the FOX broadcast.
Williams’ big day on offense highlighted an efficient game from the Detroit offense. Justin Jackson ran for 66 yards on nine carries, with Williams chipping in 64 yards on 17 attempts. Jared Goff avoided mistakes and made several nice throws despite throwing for only 165 yards.
This was the first time the Lions won without much drama all season. New York managed a late touchdown to close the gap a little, but Detroit won convincingly for the first time in 2022.
