Cross another name off the pending Detroit Lions free agency list. The Lions have re-signed linebacker and special teams stalwart Josh Woods to a new contract.
Woods was slated to become a restricted free agent. As the team did last week with fullback Jason Cabinda, the Lions locked up Woods before needing to apply any tender offer or restriction.
The 25-year-old Woods joined the Lions in September after being let go by the Chicago Bears. He immediately became an indispensable part of Detroit’s special teams, playing 174 snaps in 12 games. Injuries to the LB corps forced Woods onto the field on defense late in the season and he responded with 13 total tackles in his one start, the Week 14 loss to the Broncos.
Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
