Lions injury update: DJ Chark begins to practice, still no Jameson Williams

Lions head coach Dan Campbell delivered some updates on the status of two injured Detroit wide receivers prior to Wednesday’s practice session in Allen Park.

The good news first: DJ Chark will begin practicing right away. The Lions have started the 21-day clock to activate the wideout off injured reserve. He has been out since Week 3 with an ankle injury. Detroit now has 21 days to either activate Chark or lose him for the rest of the season to IR.

Now for the not-so-good news…

First-round pick Jameson Williams remains sidelined and will not begin practice right away. Campbell was optimistic in serving up this assessment,

“I would say probably after Thanksgiving sometime would be the best way to—I think that’s tentatively what we’re looking at. I don’t know if that would be the Jacksonville week (Week 13) or the week after. It could be next week, it’s just we’re not doing a ton. But he’s close. It certainly won’t be this week, and I don’t see, there again, him playing for Thanksgiving, but we’ll see where it goes. He’s progressing. There’s no setbacks.”

The Lions have yet to start the activation clock with Williams, who has been out all season recovering from ACL surgery in January. The team could activate him quickly; not all 21 days are required to be used once practice begins for Williams.

Campbell recently laid out the timeline that the speedy Williams would return sometime in December. His words on Wednesday reinforce that likelihood.
