The collective lump in the throat of Lions fans everywhere just eased a little bit. After suffering what could have been a catastrophic knee injury during Monday’s practice, tests have revealed that defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson won’t miss much time.
Field Yates of ESPN reports that there is no structural damage to Gardner-Johnson’s right knee after undergoing an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. Yates indicates Gardner-Johnson will carry a day-to-day status.
That’s a major relief. Gardner-Johnson is expected to play a major role as the team’s primary slot corner, as well as a playmaking safety. He led he NFL in interceptions in 2022 with the Eagles despite missing five games with a lacerated kidney. His attitude and swagger have been welcome additions to the Lions locker room, too.
