The last time the Detroit Lions captured a division title prior to winning it on Sunday was 1993.
In that year, Bill Clinton was in the first year of his term as U.S. president. Jurassic Park was the highest grossing film in movie theaters, gas prices were listed at $1.11, the cost of a 30-second Super Bowl ad was $850,000 and Lions quarterback Jared Goff wasn’t born yet.
After the Lions’ win against the Minnesota Vikings to capture the NFC North crown for the first time in three decades, it was all smiles in the Motor City as well as in Detroit’s locker room. Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson went live on Instagram for the first time as he and some of his teammates were dancing in the background in their Black shirts to commemorate the moment.
“I don’t even know what to do right now,” Hutchinson said.

When Detroit registered its division crown in ’93, it was then called the NFC Central. With the division crown secured, Detroit (11-4) will seek to win its final two games of the season against the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 30 and a rematch against the Vikings in its season finale.
The Lions will face the Cowboys at 8:15 p.m. ET on Saturday.
