Lions, DB coach Aubrey Pleasant check out the LSU pro day workout

The final major stop on the collegiate pro day circuit came on Wednesday with the LSU Tigers hosting all 32 teams for their prospect workouts.

The most notable LSU prospect is CB Derek Stingley Jr., and the Lions dispatched energetic DBs coach Aubrey Pleasant to Baton Rouge to get a firsthand look at Stingley. It was a critical day for Stingley, who is coming back off Lisfranc surgery on his foot and had not worked out for NFL teams before.

Stingley had a phenomenal freshman year in LSU’s championship season in 2019, looking like a potential No. 1 overall pick. Injuries and performing lower with a lesser supporting cast around him the last two years have cooled his buzz, but Stingley remains projected as a top-15 talent. The Lions have other needs more pertinent than cornerback on defense, but if Pleasant and the staff believe Stingley can be an impact talent, he needs to be in consideration at No. 2 overall.

He certainly looked impressive in the workout:

LSU had several other draft aspirants working out too. Among those of interest to the Lions:

  • DT Neil Farrell
  • OL Ed Ingram
  • CB Cordale Flott
  • EDGE Andre Anthony

Linebacker Damone Clark, until recently a popular Day 2 projection for the Lions, did not work out. Clark will miss all of 2022 after undergoing spinal fusion surgery. The Lions coached Clark at the Senior Bowl and the team’s LB coach, LSU grad Kelvin Sheppard, was his position coach at LSU in 2020.
