Brad Holmes and the Detroit Lions are showing a definite proclivity for keeping their own. Wide receiver Kalif Raymond is the latest of a growing number of free agents who are coming back for another season with the Lions.
Raymond and the Lions agreed to a new contract that will keep the speedy receiver in Detroit through the 2023 season. It’s a two-year contract worth a reported $9.5 million, though exact details are not yet known.
The 27-year-old Raymond had an impressive first season with the Lions after scant usage as a receiver in four prior seasons across three teams. Raymond caught 48 passes for 576 yards and four TDs.
At just 5-foot-8, Raymond is more of a niche player. But he offers bonus value as a return specialist, a role he filled for the Titans prior to joining Detroit a year ago. With less usage on offense, that could free up Raymond to be the primary punt and kick returner–a role the Lions need to fill.
