Lions are interviewing Larry Foote for the defensive coordinator opening

The Lions raided the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their new defensive line coach, hiring Kacy Rodgers to replace Terrell Williams. Now the Lions are looking at another Buccaneers coach to perhaps take over as Detroit’s new defensive coordinator.

Per multiple sources, the Lions are interviewing Buccaneers co-defensive coordinator/ LBs coach Larry Foote as a possible replacement for Aaron Glenn to run the Detroit defense.

Foote is a familiar name for Lions fans, having played in Detroit in 2009 as a starting linebacker. He is a Detroit native who played collegiately at Michigan before embarking on a 13-year NFL career. He’s been in coaching since he retired, first with the Arizona Cardinals and then the last six seasons in Tampa Bay. He’s been a co-coordinator with Rodgers for the last three years.

The familiarity with the Lions and the city of Detroit, not to mention years working with Rodgers, make Foote a very intriguing external candidate to replace Glenn.
