The outcomes of Week 14 did not create much movement for the picks in the first two rounds of the 2023 NFL draft that pertain to the Detroit Lions. Instead, the Lions’ victory over Minnesota and even an unexpected Los Angeles Rams win over the Las Vegas Raiders brought some stability to the draft order.
The Rams improved to 4-9 with their win, a game that’s much more a Raiders loss than a victory for Sean McVay’s Rams. Their first-round pick still sits at No. 4 overall. That pick conveys to the Lions as part of the Matthew Stafford/Jared Goff trade.
Detroit’s own pick sticks in the middle of the first round at 15 overall. The Lions beat the Vikings to improve to 6-7. Weirdly enough, the Lions are one of just two teams with 6-7 records. The other, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is in first place in the NFC South.
In the second round, Detroit’s own pick sits at No. 47 overall. Beating Minnesota did nothing to where the Vikings’ pick later in the round slots; it’s still at No. 61 after the loss. The Vikings traded that pick in the package to acquire TE T.J. Hockenson.
