Lioness to get Madame Tussauds waxwork—and the public decides which one

The famous tourist attraction that immortalises some of the most prominent public figures across the globe has announced that it has decided to make a waxwork of one of England’s Lionesses.

Madame Tussauds made the announcement following the team’s breathtaking performance during the Women’s World Cup which saw them roar into the finals but lose to Spain in the final.

Excitingly, the wax museum is letting the public decide which Lioness should be commemorated with a wax figure displayed at its London location in recognition of the team’s accomplishments.

Currently, there are eight Lionesses in the running. These are:

  • Nottingham-born Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps, who played in all of England’s seven matches in the World Cup
  • Liverpudlian Greenwood defender Alex Greenwood, who played even after suffering from an eye injury mid-match
  • Manchester City forward Chloe Kelly, who scored a penalty against Nigeria, securing England’s place in the quarter-finals
  • Chelsea forward Lauren James, who became the first England player to be directly involved in five or more goals in a game at the men’s or women’s World Cup,
  • Leah Williamson, who missed out on the Women’s World Cup due to an injury but captained England to win the Euros last year
  • Northumberland’s Lucy Bronze, who has been one of England’s most consistent and impressive players over the years
  • Chelsea defender Millie Bright, who captained the England team through this year’s World Cup
  • Sarina Wiegman, who has been manager of the England Women’s National Team since September 2021

To vote, head to the Madame Tussauds website and fill out the dedicated form. It will ask you to enter your full name, email address, and the footballer you’re voting for.

The public has until Friday, September 8, to vote. After the voting window is closed, Madame Tussauds will announce the chosen player within the next year.
