Lionel Richie is excited for his youngest daughter Sofia Richie to marry her fiancé Elliot Grainge, having nothing but kind words to say about his future son-in-law.
The music legend has shared his response to the happy news a week after model Sofia, 23, and music executive Elliot, 28, announced to fans they were engaged, with the bride-to-be showing off her huge diamond ring.
Doting dad Lionel, 72, has now revealed that Elliot asked his permission before popping the question, adding that his future son-in-law was a 'nervous wreck.'
However, the music legend was quick to give his approval - having known Elliot since he was 12-years-old.
Speaking at an American Idol press event, the former Commodores frontman told Access :: "I love Elliot. I've known him since he was 12. How about that?
"So it was one of those things where I don't have to go back and check out the kid. I know who he is."
Lionel told the outlet that Sofia, who previously dated Kourtney Kardashian's ex Scott Disick, and Elliot are "so happy" together.
"She's in good hands," added Lionel, as he described Sofia as his 'little girl'.

And discussing being asked for permission, Lionel - whose eldest daughter is Nicole Richie, 40 - said that Elliot was a "nervous wreck" when it came to broaching the subject.
He teased that Elliot - who is the son of Universal Music Group chairman Lucian Grainge, 62 - seemed like he was going to "pass out," though he thankfully "survived" it.
Lionel added that it was "wonderful," with him further commenting that his fashion designer daughter and her fiancé are "deeply in love," with that meaning a lot to him.
Sofia announced her engagement with a post on Instagram last week, which included a photo of her and Elliot embraced in a kiss as she showed off the engagement ring.
The model - who was previously in a relationship with Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum Scott Disick, 38, from around 2017 until 2020 - said "forever isn't long enough."
