Lionel Messi finally lead Argentina to World Cup success, adding international football's grandest prize to his impressive collection.
The little magician scored twice in the showpiece match at the Lusail Stadium but France fought back on two occasions - including from two goals down - to take the game to penalties.
Kylian Mbappe, Messi's PSG teammate, shone once again on the world stage picking up the match ball after becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final since Sir Geoff Hurst in 1966.

But his treble proved to be in vain for the reigning champions as Aston Villa and former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was the hero during the penalty shootout.
The question remains surrounding the 35-year-old as to whether he will finally hang up his boots on the international stage after scooping the only major honour that has previously deceived him.
An impressive seven goals at the 2022 World Cup, Golden Ball winner and a winners medal would be enough to end on a high after the crowning moment but for the PSG star, he still isn't finished.
"I love football, it's what I do," he said. "I enjoy being in the national team and want to continue by experiencing a few more games as a world champion. Obviously, I wanted to cap my career with this and I can't ask for anything more."
