Linlithgow Rose manager Gordon Herd, rued his side's failure to convert their dominance into a victory in their 1-1 draw with Blackburn United at the Purdie Worldwide Community Stadium, writes Callum McCormack.
Owen Andrew rescued a point with an injury-time equaliser after the Rose had been thwarted all afternoon by an impressive United defensive display.
He said: “The performance was disappointing. I thought we dominated for large spells of the game. We failed to score, and then the longer you don’t score at a place like this it becomes more nervy.
"Then they got their goal from a set-piece but I thought we did well to get back into the game. I think maybe it’s a game we would have lost last season.”
Herd said that he’ll be looking for his side to be more clinical if they’re to live up to early season expectations, commenting: "It’s disappointing to come here and draw the first game of the season. Fair play to Blackburn, they set their stall out and they knew what they wanted to do and they made it hard for us.
"We’ve just got to be a bit more clinical and better in the final third to go and win the game. We’re disappointed, but we were 1-0 down and we’ve gotten a draw so we’ve got to be happy with that.”
Speaking about whether his side’s late equaliser indicates a change in mentality, he added: "I don’t know how I feel about that. It’s mixed emotions because I think we did dominate for an hour or 65 minutes but Blackburn have hit us with that corner, and then we’ve done well to get back into the game.
"So it’s mixed emotions, I don’t know how I feel. But I think we did enough first half to get our noses in front and like I said the longer a game goes without a goal it gets a bit nervy, and that’s what happened to us.
“Disappointed with the draw, but happy we got ourselves back into the game."
