Line of Duty star Martin Compston spotted on Ayrshire beach for filming of new BBC drama 'Mayflies'

Line of Duty star Martin Compston has been spotted on an Ayrshire beach as he films a new TV show.

The Scots actor was pictured on Troon beach this week as he shoots scenes for upcoming BBC drama Mayflies which also stars Tony Curran and Ashley Jensen.

The two-part drama is being filmed in locations across South Ayrshire with crews expected to be in the region up until September 17.

The Greenock born actor who starred in hit cop drama Line of Duty as AC12 officer DC Steve Arnott could be seen having a laugh with co-star Curran who played a key role in Netflix's Robert the Bruce movie Outlaw King.

The actors were seen walking along the sandy shoreline as film crews descended on the Ballast Bank area of the town.

More scenes are expected to be filmed along the coast at Greenan shore in Ayr, with the beauty spot's car park closing down for the next few weeks to allow film crews access.

On Tuesday we told how trailers and crew were spotted near Ayr's Horizon Hotel.

Mayflies follows the story of two best mates, Jimmy (Compston) and Tully (Curran), who reunite 30 years on from vowing to 'go at life differently'.

The pair reconnect in testing circumstances after they spent the 1980s partying over their love of music.

The drama is based on a book by Scots author Andrew O'Hagan and is set to air over two parts.

South Ayrshire Council this week confirmed filming was going ahead and advised of any road closures that may take place.

A council spokesperson said: "Filming for a television drama is taking place at Greenan shore in Ayr, until September 17.

"As a result, the car park at Greenan has been closed to the public. The car park will reopen September 17.

"The car park at Greenan just off Castle Walk, remains open but will be closed for the day on September 9."

Mayfilies is set to be shown on BBC One, BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer. No release has been confirmed.
