Line of Duty fans love trying to piece together a mystery and actor Adrian Dunbar has lined them up for just riddle. Famed for playing Superintendent Ted Hastings in the hit show, the star has teased season seven but added that there could be a big change in the format.
The drama was one of the BBC's biggest hits last year as fans eagerly anticipated the big reveal of who H was. While there has been no official word from writer Jed Mercurio or the BBC about when, and if, the series will return, Dunbar has hinted at a development. However, the show's return might not be what fans are expecting.
The show, which stars Nottingham born actor Vicky McClure as DI Kate Fleming alongside Martin Compston, who plays DI Steve Arnott, returned to our screens for series six in Spring 2021. Some 15 million viewers tuned in to the final series as the identity of 'H' was discovered in the controversial climax.

But while the longest episode count of the police drama series has been seven episodes in a series, that format may dramatically change if series seven is created. In an interview with Radio Times magazine, Dunbar, who plays the steely police boss said: "There’s been talk about a movie or a four-parter or two 90 minutes," he teased.
The Line of Duty star added: "We’d love to do it again. I’m really hoping something might happen next year." Alluding to a new series, he added that there's "something in Jed's laptop – a couple of templates as to how things could go".
Fellow actor Martin Compston has also been hinting at a return. Last week, he was reported as alluding to a new series saying: "We sat down with Jed recently. "We’ve always taken a year or two between series. This is no different. We won’t do it for the sake of it. We’ll do it if there’s something to tell.”
He added: “It’s amazing knowing people still want us back, especially when colleagues have become my best friends. They and the show really mean a lot to me.”
The friendships made was also something highlight by Adrian Dunbar said. He said: "We’re always talking about stuff. Vicky [McClure] and her fella Jonny Owen have their own production company now. We’d love to do something all together one day."
However, speaking to The Guardian recently, Vicky McClure stressed "there's no word" about a seventh season as yet. However, she went on to say that "should [another season] happen, we’re all game".
