Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar teases when fans will find out if there will be a season 7

Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar has discussed the future of the BBC drama, and if season seven will go ahead.

The Irish actor, who played Ted Hastings on the hit show alongside Martin Compston and Vicky McClure, revealed there's a good chance the series will return for another season. Both the BBC and the show's creator Jed Mercurio have remained tight lipped on the future, but cast members have expressed their interest in returning.

Adrian, 64, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday and told hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls there wouldn't long to wait until the seventh instalment is confirmed or denied - once and for all. He teased we could know in a matter of weeks or months if and when Line of Duty will return, and whether the cast will be back too.

As Susanna asked: "Will there be another season?" Adrian said: "Well yes, we really hope so. I mean everyone is kind of gunning for it, so yeah. I'm sure the public want it."

As Ed asked if it would be a full series and not a special one-off, he went on: "Well, we don't really know. It's entirely down to Jed. So we're keeping our fingers crossed. Within the next few weeks or couple of months we might hear something, so that will be good."

On the likelihood of the hit coming back, he agreed there was room for the show to return given the series six ending and storylines. He said: "The story can continue, put it that way. In terms of the story finishing I think it was a really interesting ending," adding that he believed the ending was "very realistic".

It comes months after Adrian's co-star Martin Compston sent fans into meltdown with a post on Instagram in June. The 38-year-old Scottish actor enjoyed a cosy lunch with his co-stars Vicky McClure and Adrian, as well as Jed, and he couldn't resist capturing the moment on camera.

The trio are seen enjoying some food alfresco as well as sharing a bottle of wine, which could be seen in the middle of the table. Martin simply captioned the post: "Talking tattoo designs," alongside a red heart emoji.

Many of Martin's followers felt this was a massive reference to the hit BBC series because the cast were said to have agreed to get matching tattoos following the huge success of series six after it reached over 12 million in viewer ratings.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
