This week, Lindsay Lohan and her husband Bader Shammas welcomed their first child into the world. Their baby boy, named Luai, has lots to look forward to, not least of all his new nursery.
The Mean Girls alumni took to Instagram to share her happy home with the nursery room she designed with Nestig to welcome the new baby.
The photo, above, shows a glowing Lohan in an all-white ensemble holding her baby bump, in the most adorable nursery we’ve ever seen. Lindsay’s light yellow walls are accented with a sweet beachy mural. The painting shows the bright sun shining over a coastline where gentle waves rock a sailboat and a plane fly peacefully overhead in the style of an illustrated children’s book. A rounded natural wood and white crib take center stage with a blue and white striped baby blanket draped over the side. The next image in the carousel shows a rounded-edged dresser that coordinates with the crib.
Design experts say that the features of this room are more than just cute. Interior designer Reena Ravi is a huge fan of murals for their developmental effects.
‘I love using murals on nursery walls! They add color and imagery to the room, providing visual stimulation for babies, toddlers, and even the parents! A room can really be personalized with a custom-painted mural and there is also a range of wallpaper mural styles from nature-inspired scenes to chinoiserie scenes. The mural images can spark a child’s imagination and provide an early introduction to colors, shapes, animals, etc,’ she says.
Reena is also a huge fan of the neutral color palette that Lindsay has chosen. She states that ‘soft colors such as pastels, muted greens, blues can evoke a calm, soothing environment while brighter, bold colors can project a more energetic mood.’ The combination of soft yellows, blues and creams in the room brings an air of tranquillity to future nap times for little Luai.
Based on the rounded corners of the furniture, it’s clear that safety, as the baby matures into a toddler, has been a huge consideration. Leigh Spicher, the national director of design studios for Ashton Woods Homes, emphasizes that safety and function should be of primary importance when designing a nursery. She states: ‘Beware of severe corners on beds, nightstands and furniture. Anchor all furniture to the walls (kids often leave all the dresser drawers open and dressers tip over). Avoid cords, especially around lamps or window treatments.’
