Linda Martin opens new dog sanctuary near Finglas

Linda Martin is revealing plans for an exciting new dog sanctuary located near Finglas.

The singer has been an animal rights advocate for decades and is a firm supporter of Dogs Aid. Linda admitted to the Irish Independent that she had been left penniless by the initiative, which will help protect abandoned dogs across Dublin.

The hub will be located in Meakstown, Co Dublin and has already had the backing of several familiar faces. 'Lord of the Rings' star Ian McKellen has agreed to cut the ribbon on the day of the launch.

Linda wrote on Twitter: "’I'm totally overwhelmed by your response to my new dog shelter. Ian McKellen is cutting the ribbon for me. He’s a huge animal lover."

The news emerges as animal charities struggle with additional strays. The DSPCA has urged people not to buy dogs online as it struggles with rising numbers at its shelter.

People are being encouraged to adopt rather than shop due to the influx of animals. Linda's new sanctuary emerges following the closure of Ashton Dog Pound in 2021.
