Lincolnshire town Boston in 'devastation' as flowers left for girl killed in stabbing

The town of Boston has been left in 'devastation' after a nine-year-old girl was stabbed to death. Over the Nottinghamshire border, Lincolnshire Police launched a murder investigation into the tragedy.

Flowers have been left at the scene following the incident in Fountain Lane. Boston Borough Council leader Paul Skinner said the authority was "devastated to learn of this very sad and tragic incident".

"We can’t for one second imagine the pain the family and the young girl’s friends are feeling and our heartfelt condolences go out to them," he added. The incident was reported to the police at around 6.20pm on Thursday (July 28).

The family of the young girl - who, at this time, is yet to be named by police - are being supported by specialist officers. At the scene late on Thursday night, a police car was stationed either side of an alleyway to cordon the area off to the public. Two forensic officers in white suits could be seen before leaving in the early hours of Friday morning (July 29).

The Conservative MP for Boston and Skegness, Matt Warman, said he had been in contact with the policing minister to ensure national assistance is available to the murder investigation. “Profoundly shocking news in Boston this evening,” Mr Warman he said.

“I have spoken to senior officers locally and am hugely grateful for all the emergency services’ work. I have also been in contact with policing minister Tom Pursglove to ensure that any national help that might be useful is made available as quickly as possible.”

So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the investigation. The young girl’s parents have been informed. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting incident 419 of July 28. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
