Lincolnshire Police statement after boy died in Skegness

The teenage boy who died after going into the sea in Skegness was from Hereford, Lincolnshire Police have said. The 13-year-old went into the water at around 6.15pm on Saturday (August 13).

A search was carried out by police and coastguard officials and the boy’s body was recovered at around 11.30pm. In an update on Monday (August 15), Lincolnshire Police confirmed the boy was from Hereford. Superintendent Lee Pache said: “We received a high volume of calls for missing people on the coast yesterday.

"At one point, within two hours, we received 10 calls. All of the those who were reported missing, other than the child who sadly died, were located safe and well. Our thoughts are with the boy’s family.”

A search was carried out by police, the coastguard and lifeboat crews and the body of the teenage boy was found. The Mayor of Skegness paid his respects following the tragedy.

Councillor Tony Tye told Lincolnshire Live: "This really is very, very sad. It is sad for the whole of the town that someone had been lost to the sea. People come to Skegness for fun and to have a good time and so this boy's death is even more tragic."
