Limerick vs Kilkenny: Hawk-Eye back in use for All-Ireland hurling final

The GAA have confirmed that Hawk-Eye will be back in use for Sunday’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling final between Limerick and Kilkenny at Croke Park.

The score detection system was stood down for the second half of Galway’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final win over Derry after it incorrectly ruled a Shane Walsh 45 as a wide.

The score was awarded for the second half, but Hawk-Eye wasn’t in use for the remainder of the game and wasn’t used for Kerry’s semi-final win over Dublin the following afternoon.

The GAA received a report from Hawk-Eye earlier this week and said it would undergo further testing this week pending a decision on its use for this weekend’s fixtures.

In a statement, the association confirmed that the technology will be operational for the hurling decider and the Ladies semi-finals at Croke Park as well as the Camogie quarter-finals in Thurles.

“The GAA can confirm that following comprehensive testing and a full review of Hawkeye's score detection technology in recent days, the system will be in use for Sunday's All-Ireland hurling final meeting of Kilkenny and Limerick,” the statement read.

“The system will also be in use tomorrow (Saturday) for the LGFA semi-finals at Croke Park and the Camogie Association's quarter-finals in Thurles.”

The report issued by Hawk-Eye earlier this week stressed that the issues with the system only affected the Hill 16 posts and the GAA are confident that Hawk-Eye was correct in ruling an effort by Derry’s Conor Glass in the first half of the Galway game as a wide.

The report from Hawk-Eye also clarified that no historical issues have arisen.
