Lily Douglas tribute planned at Dundee FC match on Wednesday night

Football fans are planning a tribute to honour tragic cancer teen Lily Douglas.

Dundee FC and St Johnstone supporters will applaud on the 14th minute of tomorrow night’s match at McDiarmid Park.

It comes following the inspirational youngster’s death at the weekend aged just 14.

A statement on the Dark Blues’ Facebook page said: “Fans of both sides are planning to have a minutes applause in the 14th minute as a tribute to young Lily, who’s brave battle with cancer sadly ended recently aged just 14.”

Just yesterday, Lily’s heartbroken mum, Jane, spoke of the anguish of life without her daughter.

Lily was said to be “at peace and in no more pain” on Sunday evening after a five-year battle with a rare type of cancer.

Jane was with her girl at home in Perth when the teenager died in her embrace on January 23.

The morning after, Jane posted a heart-breaking message to her on Facebook.

She said: “Go dance with the angels, Princess. I will make sure no one ever forgets you.”

Lily was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma - a rare type of cancer that affects bones or the tissue around bones - when she was just nine.

She arrived at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary on Friday January 14 to begin a potential breakthrough drug trial but the day after, before doctors could get started, she suffered a brain bleed.

Medics told Jane they were not sure if Lily would last the night.

She managed to open her eyes on January 16 and was able to chat to her mum, eat something and even check her phone for messages.

She was allowed to go home to Scotland as Jane asked for privacy and prayers.

But on Sunday Jane confirmed the youngster had “danced her way to heaven” after passing away at 7.17pm.
