Lilt fizzy drink name scrapped as Coca Cola rebrand it Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit

It has been confirmed that Lilt will be no more with the soft drinks brand set to be scrapped after nearly 50 years.

The re-brand of the drink known for "totally tropical taste" comes after the changes which being made today (February 14) meaning that from now, the drink will be known as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit, owner the Coca Cola Company says.

In good news to fans of the drink, according to the BBC, the ingredients will not be changing therefore it's iconic taste will remain.

But it seems fans are still keen to keep things as they were before the rebrand with many loving the 'Lilt' name.

Taking to Twitter one said: "Awwwww feels like the end of an era. Adverts were very uplifting."

Another added: "Phew, thought we had lost a good one for min."

"Why does every tropical flavour of a drink always have to turn into a Fanta? Fruit twist, orange, lemon etc," questioned a third.

The iconic soft drink originally launched back in 1975 with many remembering it, no just or it's taste, but the advertising too with one featuring the Lilt Man in the late 1980s, while a decade later it was promoted by two Jamaican women known as the Lilt Ladies.

Coca Cola, which owns a host of different soft drink brands around the world, said Lilt would no longer be sold under the current branding from February 14 (today) with the new Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit bottles and cans being gradually rolled out across the UK.

Fanta brand manager Charlotte Walsham said: "Our main priority with this announcement is to reassure Lilt's loyal fan base that absolutely nothing has changed when it comes to the iconic taste of the drink they know and love.

"It's just got itself a new name."
