Lille manager Paulo Fonseca has admitted that "it will be difficult" to keep Jonathan David at the Ligue 1 side amid links with a potential move to Manchester United.
The Ligue 1 striker was one of the stars that Canada had pinned their slim hopes on to help them get out of their World Cup group last month, yet the 22-year-old failed to find the net on all three occasions for his home nation.
The lack of goals are by no means a true reflection in David's ability, and Erik ten Hag may well be secretly pleased that the forward failed to score should he be keen on bringing him to Old Trafford, as he avoids potentially having to pay an inflated transfer fee off the back of a fine international tournament.

David's contract expires in the summer of 2025, yet the growing rumours suggest that it is unlikely the Canadian will be at his current club beyond next season. This is a viewpoint shared by Fonseca, as the Lille manager admitted that his forward is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe.
The Lille head coach told La Voix des Sports : "It will be difficult to keep Jonathan David at the club next season.
"There are not many strikers with his skills and numbers in Europe. He's just 22. I think top European clubs will try to sign Jonathan David."
David is known for his versatility, being able to play in a variety of roles along the front-line and even behind the forward - a trait that will greatly appeal to Ten Hag as he looks to add another attacker in the winter window.
