Arsenal have been reminded about a potential transfer target who could transform Mikel Arteta’s midfield which is evidently needed after the recent poor performances.
Bruno Guimaraes released a compilation of his highlights shortly after Arsenal’s Thursday night Carabao Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Liverpool, and fans believe this could have been an indirect audition to join the Gunners.
Arteta's side is in desperate need of a central midfielder due to the ongoing shortages in that position, and reports believe that Arthur Melo will be the short-term option to solve the midfield issues.
Despite this, the Gunners have been long-time admirers of Guimaraes and he would certainly be a long-term solution for the midfield issues as he would be the perfect Thomas Partey partner in the middle of the park.
The north London side’s defeat to Liverpool made it clear that sorting out the midfield issues should be a priority for Edu, as they looked inferior in that department across the whole 90 minutes.
Albert Sambi Lokonga was tasked with playing in the anchor-man role with Martin Odegaard occasionally pivoting alongside him, and Emile Smith Rowe also dropping deep at times throughout the match.
However, the young midfielder showed his inexperience throughout the game and misplaced passes in critical situations, which showed he is not yet ready to be relied upon.
Granit Xhaka was suspended for the match, and not for the first time this season, which also indicates that he is another midfielder that Arteta cannot put full faith in.
Thomas Partey is the only central-midfielder at the club who provides the team with real quality and can be considered reliable, but he still needs to fulfil his adaptation to the Premier League.
The Ghanaian being accustomed to the English game would be done in a more swift manner if he had a quality player who is reliable alongside him.
The Gunners are actively trying to sort out this issue and they are stepping up their pursuit for Arthur, as according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the players’ agent Federico Pastorello has travelled to the English capital to outline his client's desire to join the Gunners.
This deal would only be a short-term solution, so the Gunners may have to look elsewhere in the summer transfer window and Guimaraes would certainly be the right signing long-term.
Alongside his indirect message on social media with the posting of his highlights, he has already expressed his desire to play in England.
Speaking to FoxNews in 2020, he said: "I have always said to my agents that I dream of playing in England, it is the best league in the world, all the matches are close."
Guimaraes would allow the Ghanaian to utilise his strengths to the absolute maximum, especially when you consider that he is one of the best all-round defensive midfielders in Europe when it comes to ball progression and winning the ball back from the opposition, so it is an audition that Arsenal must seriously consider.
According to Brazilian outlet Globo, the Ligue 1 side are set to demand £38m million for the Brazilian.
