Ligue 1 side 'plot move' for Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi

French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais are plotting a move for Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi, according to reports in France.

The Japanese centre-forward has already been linked away from Glasgow's east end this month, with MLS outfit Atlanta United previously said to be keen on his services.

Although a potential move across the Atlantic Ocean seems unlikely, Furuhashi could yet swap Scotland for France, with Rennes plotting a move for the 29-year-old, per reports from L'Equipe and Quest-France.

Talks have reportedly been initiated for a while between the French side and both Furuhashi and Celtic.

While Rennes boss Jorge Sampaoli is keen on a move for the attacker, the same can't be said about the club's sporting director Frederic Massara.

Adding a further stumbling block to any move is the fact that Celtic are said to be unwilling to lose Furuhashi before their crucial UEFA Champions League clashes with Young Boys and Aston Villa at the end of this month.

Victory against the Swiss side next week would be enough to see the Hoops into the knockout rounds of the competition for the first time in over a decade.

Furuhashi will likely be key in the hotly anticipated clash, especially given he has scored 12 goals and assisted three in 30 appearances for the Scottish Premiership champions this season.

The striker is also the joint top scorer in Scotland's top flight, so any departure would be a bitter blow for Brendan Rodgers, particularly midway through the season.
