Lightroom In London To Premiere 'Vogue: Inventing The Runway' Exhibition

London Fashion Week fashion models

Lightroom in London is set to host a groundbreaking exhibition titled ‘Vogue: Inventing the Runway’ this autumn, offering a deep dive into the evolution of the fashion catwalk show. Running from October 25 to March 30, 2025, the exhibition will explore the history of catwalk shows, from the intimate couture salons of the early 20th century to the extravagant pop-culture spectacles of today.

Utilizing Vogue’s extensive archive and rare materials from renowned fashion houses and contributors, the exhibition aims to provide visitors with a comprehensive look at the inner workings of catwalk shows. By incorporating first-hand testimonies and a diverse range of media, the exhibition will showcase how fashion shows have evolved into a platform for designers to express their creative visions.

The immersive experience at Lightroom will feature a 360-degree canvas across its four-storey walls, allowing guests to engage with designers’ creations in innovative ways and on an unprecedented scale. The 50-minute show will guide visitors through thematic chapters using original animation, state-of-the-art sound design, and a blend of classical and pop music to recreate the ambiance of iconic fashion shows that have left a lasting impact on the cultural landscape.

Notable designers such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, and Versace will be prominently featured in the exhibition, alongside other influential names in the fashion industry. The exhibition aims to highlight how runway shows have not only shaped the world of fashion but also reflected broader societal changes in areas such as arts, entertainment, technology, and politics.

Anna Wintour, chief content officer at Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue, expressed excitement about the opportunity for a wider audience to witness the history of fashion unfold before their eyes. Mark Guiducci, creative editorial director at Vogue, emphasized the significance of runway shows in mirroring cultural shifts and hopes that ‘Inventing the Runway’ will offer audiences a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between fashion and broader societal trends.
