'Light years ahead' - Sunderland fans send clear Amad message to Manchester United

Sunderland fans are tipping "different class" loanee Amad to eventually make his mark at Manchester United as he continues to shine for the Championship hopefuls.

Having joined United from Atalanta in January 2021 for a fee potentially rising to €40million with add-ons, the Ivory Coast international was handed early opportunities in the first team by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, before he was sent on loan to Rangers last season. He temporarily signed for the Black Cats this summer.

However, the 20-year-old struggled in the Scottish Premiership while it also took him a little time to adjust to life in the Championship, too. Following a slow start, though, Amad has dazzled at the Stadium of Light and beyond as underlined by another MOTM performance on Boxing Day.

Starting for the ninth game running, Amad played as a number ten for Sunderland against Blackburn Rovers as they snatched victory in dramatic circumstances at the death. Goals from Ross Stewart and Ellis Simms settled the scores as Stewart also turned into his own net, at the other end, during a 2-1 verdict.

However, while it was the two strikers who grabbed the goals, Amad was picked out for praise post-match.

After his latest outing in the lunchtime showdown, the Ivorian has now made 17 appearances in the Championship so far this season and, as far as Sunderland fans are concerned, he has proven himself to be "light years above" that level while coupling together work-rate and application to go with his talent. It bodes well for the future with Amad hoping to eventually become a permanent fixture at United.

Here is a selection of comments about the forward as taken from Twitter;
