Lift dominates Netflix charts for 3rd week, despite mixed reviews

Netflix

In the world of streaming entertainment, Netflix reigns supreme, and one of its latest releases, Lift, continues to dominate the global charts for yet another consecutive week. Directed by F. Gary Gray and starring the comedic genius Kevin Hart alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Worthington, Billy Magnussen, and Vincent D'Onofrio, Lift is an action-packed film that follows the thrilling storyline of a master thief and his ex-girlfriend as they join forces to steal a massive sum of $500 million worth of golden bullion.

Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Lift has managed to captivate audiences and maintain a strong presence in the Netflix global top 10 list. In fact, it secured the top spot for the week of January 22nd to January 28th, marking its third consecutive week at the forefront. With a staggering 17.4 million views, Lift surpassed its competitors, Mindcage and The Kitchen, which scored 9.1 million and 7.7 million views, respectively.

Interestingly, the film's popularity on Netflix contrasts with its underwhelming performance in critical circles. Lift received a disappointing Tomatometer score of 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting a lack of critical acclaim. Even the audience score barely squeaked past with a slightly higher rating of 31%. One would expect such negative reviews to hinder the film's success on the streaming platform, but Lift has defied expectations, remaining popular among viewers despite the critical backlash.

Lift made its debut on Netflix on January 12, 2024, already well into its first chart week (January 8th to January 14th). However, it managed to claim the number one position with an impressive 32.8 million views. The following week saw a further increase to 36.7 million views. While its third week showed a decline in numbers, with less than half of its second-week viewership, Lift's totals still surpass other releases by a significant margin.

As we enter a new month, the question arises: Can Lift sustain its dominance and secure a fourth consecutive week in the Netflix global top 10? Only time will tell. One thing is for certain, though––Lift has proven itself to be a formidable force, captivating audiences with its thrilling heist narrative and stellar cast. So, if you're seeking an action-packed ride to get your adrenaline pumping, give Lift a watch and see for yourself why it has become a streaming sensation.
