Lifeboat comes to rescue of car and occupants after they got stranded on Holy Island Causeway

A lifeboat came to the rescue after a vehicle and its occupants were reported stranded on the Holy Island Causeway.

The Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat was launched to the scene from 11:43am today (January 2) following a report to the UK Coastguard that a car and its occupants had been cut off from land while attempting to cross the causeway outside of the safe crossing times.

A coastguard team from Holy Island was also mobilised to the scene on the causeway where the stranded people were thankfully brought to safety. Their car will also be able to be moved as soon as the tide recedes.

"The Coastguard Team from Holy Island was also mobilised. Safe crossing times for Monday 02/01/2023 were from 01:20 until 09:40 and from 13:55 until 21:55.

"On arrival of the Coastguard Team, they were able to confirm the persons were safe and dry on the Causeway bridge, and their car would be able to be moved as the tide receded."

As they were no longer in any danger, the incident was stood down and the Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat has since returned to the station.
