Life-saving defibrillator stolen from Blakelaw building in shocking theft

A potentially life-saving defibrillator was stolen from outside a building in Blakelaw.

Police officers received a report that an offender damaged the box and removed the defibrillator from outside Moorland House, Blakelaw, on Wednesday, April 6.

It was reported the theft happened at some point between 11.30am and 5pm, police have said. Blakelaw and North Fenham Community Council have appealed to the public to contact the police if they have any information on the theft.

A post on social media read: "Around the 4th April 2022 someone has forced the cabinet of the defibrillator attached to Moorland House, Blakelaw situated next to the main entrance. This has been reported to the police however, any information would be welcome.

"This item is there for the protection of the community and its removal literally puts lives at risk. If you have any further information please contact the police directly."

Police officers are continuing with their enquiries and have also appealed to the public to contact them if they have any information. A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We are investigating the theft of a defibrillator from outside Moorland House, Blakelaw, on April 6.

“It was reported that at some point between 11.30am and 5pm an offender damaged the box and removed the defibrillator before making off. Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting crime number 039461S/22.”
