People living in an 'underrated' part of Nottingham have outlined why they love living in a suburb where they would have to 'nitpick' to find problems. Aspley is home to a variety of shops, a David Lloyd gym and the highly-rated Bluecoat Academy campus.
Many residents do say, however, that they would like to see more funding for their community. Railway worker Cindy Martin, 49, used to live in Burton Joyce but has lived in Aspley now for nine years.

She said: “I’m always in the Heron on Melbourne Road and I go to the fruit and veg store across the road too, we have the Whitemoor which is a lovely, family-type pub. Overall, it’s a nice area.”
Cindy had one scepticism when moving to Aspley 9 years ago, she said: “I’ve lived near a school before and I hated it so being so close to Bluecoat almost put me off but it’s fine, it obviously gets busy when the kids are going to and from school but teachers stand outside most of the time to make sure they’re behaving and not causing chaos.”
“My favourite thing about the area is that it’s a bus away from town but we pretty much have everything here. If I had to nitpick about one thing the area could do with more of it would be a greasy spoon!
“I’d love to see more cafes in Aspley. It would be nice to sit outside when the weather is like this.”
On Melbourne Road, there is also a Post Office, McColls, a pharmacy and a printing shop. Adam Khan, a 22-year-old trainee psychologist said: “I like living here because it’s close to everything. We have mosques, McDonalds and a gym and I love my neighbours. It never gets too busy around here, either.”
Elliot Graham grew up in Aspley. Now 28, he lives in the area with a family of his own.
The IT technician said: “I’ve always liked the area, it’s a good place to live, I like taking walks with my family to the Beechdale Retail Park or we like getting fish and chips from Arthur and Elizabeths.”
"It would be nice if we could have a superstore. I was gutted when Collins Cash and Carry closed down, my mum loved it and I went a lot. I’ve never had a problem with the area, people are friendly and because I’ve lived here my whole life, there’s a lot of people I know or have a familiar face.”
Carol Bell, 65 thinks that Aspley is underrated. The retired school teacher explained: “You never hear people speaking about Aspley, it’s a lovely area.
“You hear people speaking about Wollaton, Sherwood, West Bridgford and other places all the time but Aspley is just as nice in my opinion.” Carol told Nottinghamshire Live what she’d like to see more of in the area.
She said: “I’d like to see more sit down places where you go and socialise. I know we have pubs but a few more restaurants or a coffee shop wouldn’t hurt.”
