Life in the Nottinghamshire village with 'nice community spirit'

Villagers have shared what it's like living in their Nottinghamshire village. Kirklington residents say the village has a "nice community spirit" and despite the A617 cutting through they are not affected by the traffic.

Less than a mile from the rural village is Hill's Pick Your Own Fruit Farm and further along on the main road is Maxey's Farm Shop, which villagers say they love having nearby. Doctor Ruth Taylor, has lived in the village for two years. She said: "Yeah it's great, it's really lovely here.

"We like the countryside and the walks and the lakes. It's also handy as it's close to Southwell and the other villages."

When asked about the traffic due to the A617 passing through Kirklington, Ruth explained: "It can be a bit noisy but since they resurfaced the roads the noise has gone down a lot." The village is less than a mile away from Hill's Pick Your Own Fruit Farm and is also close to Maxey's Farm Shop.

Ruth said: "It's great, we love doing the strawberry picking in the summer." Her daughter, Emily Jadhav, eight, added: "I love the strawberry picking but I usually eat all of them."

When asked if the village needed anything else, Ruth said it had everything they needed but Emily stated that she "would like there to be a park."

When asked her thoughts on the village, recruitment manager, Angela Davies, 42, said: "It's great, it's a lovely small community we get to live in and everyone is friendly. There's a WhatsApp group where everyone can help each other and support each other."

She added that there has recently been a lot of support for more defibrillators in the village to help the older residents. Angela added: "We are quite fortunate that we have a village hall, so the community can gather there and share ideas.

"Tt's just a generally nice place to live to be fair." When asked about the traffic coming through the village, Angela explained that most houses have long drives or are set back from the road, so it doesn't really bother them.

Speaking of the nearby farms popular with tourists, Angela said: "It's fantastic, it's nice to have them nearby and they do pumpkin picking when it's the season. I think there is a need for farm shops."

Education worker, Anneline Cowdrey, 47, said: "We have been here nearly 10 years and I think it's just nice being in the countryside. We go on walks and there's donkeys down that end of the village that we visit, so when we did lots of walking in lockdown we would see them.

"There's a nice community spirit here." When asked if the traffic was noisy or caused the family any issues, Anneline replied: "No not really."
