Life in Nottingham suburb where 'neighbours look out for each other' as just 1 burglary reported

Neighbours do not want to move out of the Nottingham area where "everyone looks out for each other". Sherwood has recorded the lowest number of burglary reports when compared to the rest of Nottingham, latest data reveals.

Only one burglary was reported in Sherwood in April, according to Home Office data published on police.uk. To put into context, Bilborough has recorded the highest number of reports of burglary for the same month - with 18 incidents reported for this type of crime.

But the low figure does not come as a surprise to the tightknit community. Residents in Sherwood said they love living there and always keep an eye out for each other.

Hitu Keval, a retired resident who has lived in Sherwood since 1987, said: "We look out for each other. I know everyone on this street.

"I always keep an eye out. If I see a stranger in the area, I will always ask them 'can I help you?' It is a very friendly community."

He added: "We are like partners in this community. I have lived here since 1987 and I could count on one hand the incidents that happened here.

"You would probably have too many fingers to count them", he added. Alys Power, who works and lives in Sherwood, also praised the "strong sense of community", adding: "Sherwood has a good community.

"People look out for their neighbours. There is a very strong sense of community here."

She added: "It has a reputation that is a nice area and it probably makes more families want to move here. It is a snowball effect.

"I would not move somewhere else. I have never had any problems."

Claudine Pavier, a teacher who lives in the area, also added: "I have lived here since 2006 and I have never had any problems. Sherwood is a very friendly place to live."

The 45-year-old added: "I know my immediate neighbours, and those across the road. It is really quiet around here.

"I feel safe walking into Sherwood and walking back on my own at night", she added. "It is good to know these figures.

"People try to move into the area but it is difficult. People struggle to buy a house in Sherwood because it is so popular."
