Liel Abada 'rejected' new Celtic contract and wants to leave for England claims former club's president

Liel Abada’s former president claims the winger “wants” to leave Celtic this summer and has already rejected a new deal.

Avi Luzon is the head honcho at Abada’s former club Maccabi Petah Tikva, who banked £3.5million when the Israeli was signed by Ange Postecoglou in the summer of 2021. Since then, Abada has impressed with his goals and assists tally for the champions as they regained the Scottish Premiership title, lifted the League Cup twice and took on the European big guns in the group stage of the Champions League.

But Luzon insists Abada will be heading off to the English Premier League at the end of this season, which he has somehow worked out is “90 per cent” probable. He claims that the 21-year-old could have gone in January but didn’t want to, and also knocked back the chance to commit his future to the Parkhead club after being offered a new deal.

Luzon told One Sport: “I believe he will be sold in the summer to the Premier League. There were talks already in the last window, but he didn't want to be sold.

“They offered him a contract extension and I know he didn't agree, because he wants to be sold. I don't know the names of teams, but there are offers and I believe at a probability level of over 90% that he will move to the Premier League in the summer.

“I hope that he will continue to score goals until the end of the season and then he will be sold for sure."

He could join compatriot Manor Solomon, who has been in fine scoring form for Fulham. However, Luzon believes Abada has something his more established colleague does not. He added: “These are different players. Liel has always had one advantage over Manor: that he is much more of a scorer than him. He knows how to score goals from any situation. Let’s call it that.”
