Lidl is currently in the process of trialling digital shelf labels across a select number of stores - as the budget supermarket endeavours to free-up time for employees who may have other duties to attend to.
Electronic shelf labels are currently in play across 30 of Lidl's stores, but a national rollout could come in the near future depending on the outcome.
The German-founded retailer hopes that the move will improve efficiency across the board - allowing supermarket employees to focus on other, more worthwhile tasks - while also allowing the company to be more environmentally friendly, with less paper waste according to The Grocer.

The Mirror reports that a number of eagle-eyed shoppers have already spotted the technology in motion at Lidl's Tooting store, where everyday own-label lines are displayed with the electronic tag, as opposed to the old paper version.
Elsewhere, rival retailer Aldi has also been trialling the digital shelf labels since 2021 - present in a number of UK stores. After seeing success, Aldi said that they were now gradually installing the electronic displays in all stores.
Tesco and Sainsbury's have also previously trialled the technology, although the leading supermarkets have decided against the move. Morrisons meanwhile have them in a number of stores - including Newcastle's Great Park outlet.
Elsewhere, Lidl has recently been on the lookout for a number of new locations to set-up shop. The brand shared a wishlist of more than 1,000 locations across the UK where it would like to open new stores.
At the time of writing, the supermarket has 950 stores across England, Scotland and Wales - but hopes to increase the number to 1,100 come the end of 2025. The supermarket announced that it was looking for 'prominent locations' with a 'strong pedestrian or traffic flow' - detailing how sites should exceed 1.5 acres for standalone units or up to four acres for mixed-use shops.
Lidl GB Chief Development Officer, Richard Taylor, said: "Our store expansion has been and continues to be unparalleled. In the last three months alone, we’ve opened 15 new stores – more than any other retailer, and in 2022 we welcomed customers through the doors of over 50 new stores.
"But we won’t be stopping there. Our vision is to have over 1,100 stores in the future, but really there’s no ceiling on our ambition or growth potential."
