Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons issue urgent 'do not eat' warnings amid safety fears of some foods

Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons have all urgently recalled foods after safety concerns were raised. Two of the products listed might contain either Salmonella or Listeria, according to bulletins issued by the Food Standards Agency.

Lidl has recalled its Eridanous Greek Style Smoked Mackerel Fillet with Olives and Oregano with Soy Oil. It says Listeria monocytogenes have been found in the product and is warning customers not to eat them.

According to the FSA the 150g pack is affected with a lot number of 01063402062022 and a best before date of January 2, 2023. It said the recall had been issued as a result of the "presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products listed".

It added: "Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

"Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems."

It continued: "Lidl GB is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."

Anyone with concerns or queries is advised to call Lidl customer services on 0370 444 1234. Alternatively they can email customer.services@lidl.co.uk.

Morrisons has recalled a fresh fruit product over concerns it might contain Salmonella. It is urging any customers who have bought one of two of their mango products not to eat them but return it for a full refund.

The FSA says the two affected lines are Morrisons Mango and Morrisons Mango Fingers. The Morrisons Mango is in a pack size opf 240g with a best before date of August 23, 2022. The Morrisons Mango Fingers at a 210g pack and have a best before date of August 22, 2022.

It advises customers not to eat the products but return them to the store. It added: "Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps."

Meanwhile Tesco is warning people with a milk allergy not to eat one of its mixed fruit and nuts products after it was incorrectly labelled. It recalled its Tesco Mixed Fruit and Nut 25g pack saying it may contain milk which "will not be declared on the packaging".

It said: "The product could pose a safety risk to those people with an allergy to or intolerance to milk." It added: "Please do not consume this product if you have an allergy to milk."

It apologised and advised anyone affected to return the product for a full refund. The affected product has a batch code of L2196H221 and a best before date of January 13, 2023.

The FSA added: "This product contains milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents do not eat it.

"Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. Consumers can also contact Tesco Consumer Services on 0800 505 555."
