Lidl statement after video shows two security guards punch customer outside Irish store

Lidl have confirmed they are investigating after video emerged of two security guards punching a man on the ground outside a popular Irish store.

The incident took place outside the new Talbot Street shop in Dublin city centre on Thursday night.

Footage seen by Dublin Live shows the two guards, in black and blue Lidl jumpers, punch a man holding a bag of shopping in the face.

The man drops a number of glass bottles out of the bag, which smashed, causing a fizzy liquid to spill on the footpath.

The man was then tripped and caught with punches on the ground from the security, as onlookers shouted "that's enough".

The clip ends with a tense stand-off between onlookers and the two guards, who are holding the man by the scruff of the neck on the ground.

A Lidl spokeswoman told Dublin Live that the two guards "were responding to an incident in store with a customer".

"This is currently being investigated further," they added.
