With Christmas fast-approaching, many shoppers will be looking for cost-effective ways to make a festive feast for the whole family. Despite food inflation soaring, budget supermarket Lidl will reduce the cost of vegetables to offer a £16.32 Christmas dinner that serves six people.
The store will be offering vegetables such as 1.5kg of potatoes and 1kg of carrots for just 19 pence to make the Christmas dinner shop more affordable. They will also be keeping turkey, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and gravy granule at competitive rates to ensure families get the full festive food experience.
The price cuts - which would see Christmas dinner costing just £2.75 a head - will come into play across UK stores from December 15. This will give shoppers just over a week to get their hands on the reduced-price groceries.
Ryan McDonnell, Chief Executive Officer at Lidl GB, comments: "This year, like always, we want to help shoppers enjoy the highest quality products for the best value.
"We know everyone wants to enjoy a special Christmas meal together, which is why we’re offering Christmas roast dinner for less than £2.75 per head. As we look ahead to next year, we remain committed to offering the best value to customers up and down the country."
The full Christmas dinner includes:
- Braemoor Small British Self-Basting Turkey with Giblets - £13.49
- Simply Yorkshire puddings - 50p
- Potatoes – 19p
- Parsnips – 19p
- Carrots – 19p
- Sprouts – 19p
- Swede – 19p
- Newgate sage and onion stuffing mix – 43p
- Newgate Gravy granules - 95p
TOTAL: £16.32
The price slashing comes after Lidl was named the second-cheapest supermarket in November for a basket consisting of 48 popular groceries. It was beaten by Aldi which was just £1.36 cheaper than Lidl's £78.57.
However it was still nearly £10 cheaper than the Big Four supermarkets and over £20 cheaper than the most expensive option - Waitrose.
