Lidl shopper vows never to return after 'discovering MAGGOTS in her gherkins'

A Lidl shopper has vowed never to step foot in the supermarket again, after she reportedly found maggots swimming about in her gherkins.

Esther Clayfield took to social media to document the horror she saw when she opened the jar and cut the gherkins open, according to MyLondon.

The woman took to TikTok to complain about the "extra protein" she found, and said: "Whatever you do guys, check your gherkins from Lidl, because there might be a little surprise in there for you, some nice pickled maggots to go along with them - yum."

The video on the social media site has already racked up 171.3K likes.

In a later video, she then went on to disclose that the product in question was the Freshona Pickled Cornichons and showed an up close shot of small white objects in the gherkins - which the woman claims are 'maggots'.

And people took to the comments to share their disgust at what they've seen.

One wrote: "new fear unlocked."

Another said: "I was eating my dinner..... WAS."

While another commented with a more logical approach, saying: "Gherkins are a natural product, this can happen anywhere. If you want to make sure buy gherkin slices or quarters."

However, other TikTok users doubted whether they are in fact maggots, with some suggesting they could be seeds.

However, the woman was adamant that they were.

After the woman shared her apparent negative experience with the product many other shoppers began to take a closer look at their own gherkins from Lidl. Another woman shared her own video in response claiming that when she cut into her similar gherkins some were found to have maggots.

She said: "I have cut open every single gherkin in the jar, the majority of them are fine." However, she goes on to say: "There are maggots in some of the gherkins, I'm shaking it's disgusting."

A spokesperson for Lidl told MyLondon: "We were very sorry to hear of this matter, as it is never our intention for a customer to be dissatisfied in any way. We work very closely with our suppliers to ensure that the products we sell are of the highest possible quality for our customers.

"We are, therefore, disappointed if our expected high standards were not met on this occasion. Our Quality Assurance team are in direct contact with Ms Clayfield and we would encourage the other customer to get in touch with us directly so that that a full and thorough investigation can be carried out.
