A man whose card was declined over insufficient funds in Lidl was left "overwhelmed" with gratitude after a stranger intervened.
People have been struggling with the rising cost of living in recent months, with food prices among the soaring expenses as inflation soars.
One such person grappling with this is Jordan Baker, who went into Lidl last Thursday to pick up some essentials.
The Yorkshire man picked up some items in the Hayley Hill store but was left red-faced when his card was declined.
"My card declined and I couldn't remember the pin on the other," he told Yorkshire Live.
Jordan added that he has autism and in such situations, he can become highly overwhelmed.
"I got to Lidl in Halifax around 9pm and did my usual shopping. After scanning my shopping at the checkout, I've of course gone to pay. That's when I tried my own card and I had insufficient funds," he explained.
"I also had my friend's card with me, but I forgot the pin. I then went to call my partner to ask him for the pin again, but that's when a nice gentleman behind offered to pay for the shopping for me. I did politely decline, but he was insistent.
"Of which I thanked him very much for his help - I'd like to extend my gratitude to the kind gentleman. I can't say thank you enough for helping me out in such a stressful situation."
Jordan added that he quickly went to a nearby ATM to get money for the kind stranger but he had already gone.
"Of which I thanked him very much for his help - I'd like to extend my gratitude to the kind gentleman. I can't say thank you enough for helping me out in such a stressful situation," he said.
