Lidl makes major change to loyalty app scheme - what this means for customers

Supermarket chain Lidl has made a major change to its loyalty scheme app - and it means that shoppers will now need to spend more money to access discounts.

The discounted German grocer, which is already known for its low prices, lets shoppers access a range of deals, discounts and rewards through its 'Lidl Plus' app.

Lidl's rewards scheme app, free to download for both iPhone and Android users, has gained popularity among shoppers for helping them to find the latest offers and reduce their shopping bill at the supermarket.

Up until recently, shoppers needed to spend just £200 on their groceries throughout one month to be able to get £10 off their next shop with the supermarket.

However, this has changed from September 1, as shoppers will now get a 10% discount voucher for their next shop - and they will need to spend £250 for the discount.

The new voucher means that shoppers can get up to a maximum of £20 with the 10% discount. To get the £10 off, shoppers will now need to spend another £100 - which brings the total to £350.

The new coupon is capped at a £200 shop, meaning the most you can earn off a single shop is £20.

Lidl's rewards scheme changes comes as households across the country have been grappling with rising costs at the supermarket due to the current cost of living crisis.

Shoppers will still notice that a few rewards have stayed the same following the shake-up, which includes a free pastry item when they spend £50 and a £2 off coupon when they spend £100 during the month.

Lidl said the move means "more customers get more rewards, more often" as it's also introduced a new offer of a free own-brand cleaning product when you spend at least £150 over a month.

And they are not the only supermarket to shake up their loyalty scheme in recent months, as Morrisons announced major changes to their 'My Morrisons' app to help customers save money.

Listening to customer feedback, the supermarket giant announced that their rewards app would now feature more tailored offers, deals and a new "surprise offer" at certain times of the year.
