Lidl drawing up plans for new supermarket in Leeds

Lidl is looking to submit a planning application for a new store in Leeds.

The proposals are for the the budget supermarket to be based in Horsforth on Low Lane at the Woodside Trading Estate.

There are plans for 121 parking spaces including eight disabled, eight parent and child, and two electric vehicle charging points.

The proposal states: “The store will include a rendered plinth and a combination of rendered and brickwork walls to reflect the surrounding context.

"Modern grey cladding panels will be featured along the top half of the store. The store is 1 storey in height with a mono-pitched sloping roof, with the lowest point located closest to Old Mill Beck.

“The existing accesses to the site from Low Lane would both be replaced with a single access around 20m south of the existing northern site access.”

Conservative MP for Horsforth Jonathon Taylor has welcomed plans for the new supermarket.

He said: “There hasn’t been a planning application yet from the supermarket, it’s just the consultation phase.

“There has been quite a reaction and I think I can label it as positive which is not always the case with such a big application like this.

“In Horsforth, the only supermarket we have is the Morrison’s although while regarded highly by residents and myself included, having a bit of competition wouldn’t hurt anyone.”
