Library fines in South Lanarkshire cancelled by leisure authority

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture is scrapping library fines as of tomorrow (April 1) in a bit to encourage people to use the facilities.

The cancellation of fines will begin tomorrow and apply at all libraries, and this includes existing fines.

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture’s general manager, Kay Morrison, said: We hope people will see this as an opportunity to reconnect with their library.

“With the cost of living crisis impacting on so many people’s finances, we recognise another cost, although small, is the last thing that anyone needs.

“So, if you have books gathering dust on your shelf, why not return them and start borrowing again?

“Our libraries are fantastic places to borrow books, learn, or just relax and enjoy the surroundings.”

Those who live, work or study in South Lanarkshire can make use of the 23 libraries which all have free wi-fi access and a home delivery service.

People can also discover history and heritage of their local area as well as researching family trees at the libraries in the area.

The ActiveIT computer learning centres also allow visitors to use the internet, email friends or family and even pick up new skills.
