A respected heart specialist has been selected by the Liberal Party to run in the NSW seat of Dobell at the federal election.
Dr Michael Feneley is a cardiologist at St Vincent's Hospital and senior medical researcher with the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
The Newcastle-born father of four received an Order of Australia in 2012 for his services to medical research and leadership.
Dr Feneley has set up rural outreach programs and provided free services to the Solomon Islands for over two decades.
He intends to campaign on economic support for local businesses.
He will take on Labor MP Emma McBride, who has held the NSW central coast seat since 2016 and has a 1.5 per cent margin.
Ms McBride is a former Wyong shire councillor, who previously worked as a pharmacist and in the mental health sector.
