Liam Shaw in brutally honest Celtic future verdict as he addresses 'tough' experience on the Parkhead sidelines

Forgotten midfielder Liam Shaw admits he may be forced to leave Celtic again in the summer when his loan spell at Morecambe comes to an end.

The 21-year-old signed on a pre-contract from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2021 before current Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou was in the building, and struggled for game time under the Australian after his switch north of the border. Shaw was relegated to the Colt team before a loan move to Motherwell in January, but the prospect struggled to make his mark at Fir Park making just eight appearances for the Steelmen.

A loan move to English League One has kickstarted Shaw's career and he has become a key part of Derek Adams' side who are fighting for survival this season, however the Englishman is under no illusions over his long-term prospects in Glasgow's east end. He insists game time is his top priority at this stage in his career as he looked ahead to the end of his season-long loan.

Shaw told The Players Piece podcast if asked what his plans after his loan at Morecambe was to return to Lennoxtown and "hit the ground running" in pre-season: "Yeah, basically. I just want to go somewhere where I'm going to be playing games.

"You just improve yourself from that and it's important to play as many games as you can. (I want to) Keep Morecambe up and then go back to Celtic, and whatever will be will be. If I'm not part of the plans obviously I will go out on loan again."

Having made just two appearances under Postecoglou last term, Shaw was shipped out on loan to Motherwell where he quickly fell out of favour under Graham Alexander. He also dropped out of the picture at Sheffield Wednesday after penning his Celtic deal.

Shaw confessed the 18-month spell has been one of his most difficult in football. He stated: "I didn't really play much for six months when I was at Wednesday, then obviously for another six months with Celtic.

"That was a year where I didn't play, and that was one of the toughest parts of my career because I just wanted to play. That first six months at Celtic, I gave everything to be fair.

"I felt like I trained well but obviously it wasn't doing enough to get in the team. I went on loan to Motherwell and even then I was in and out of the Motherwell team.

"It was 18 months where I hadn't played a full stretch of games. When you are training and you know you are not going to be playing games it's tough mentally to get your head around that.

"When I was at Celtic I knew I wasn't going to be player, but I just kept training. It's tough, but I've come to Morecambe and had a good stretch of games and I'm enjoying it."
